Knitted Knockers of Canada

I just wanted to write you both a note to say thank you to you and all the Diva’s for the wonderful support of Knitted Knockers……..the donation will go a long way in helping to get more knitted knockers out to women across Canada. Who knew that this would get as big as it has with well over 5000 being sent out this year alone! We could not do it without the support of groups like the Diva’s.

Knitted Knockers of Canada is an organization dedicated to providing special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. These soft comfortable lightweight prosthesis are available for FREE. They are knit with love by our wonderful volunteers. Some women find traditional breast prosthetics too expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. Also traditional prosthesis often cannot be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, and beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. Knitted knockers can also be used to fill the gap for breasts that are uneven and easily adapted for those going through reconstruction by simply removing some of the stuffing

FUNDING: we are funded by donations only. The knockers are made by volunteer knitters who buy the yarn themselves. Once made, the knockers are donated to Knitted Knockers Canada for distribution. A dedicated bank account has been created. We do not have charitable status so tax receipts are not available.

PUBLIC AWARENESS: we are currently partnering with The Camisole Project and provide a pair of knitted knockers with each free camisole that is given out. We are also working with local yarn shops to have “knit a knocker” night to enlist more volunteer knitters and to help spread the word. We are also in the process of working with various cancer centers to help spread the word.

Knitted Knockers organizations have spread throughout the United States, Europe, Australia and Canada. In Canada we have a group in Montreal, Alberta and Osoyoos, B.C. and we ourselves are located in Ontario. While all operate independently, we share ideas without any thought of personal gain. Knitted Knockers Canada has a website (http://www.knittedknockerscanada.com) that you can visit or please like us on our Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/knittedknockersofcanada).

OUR EXPENSES: are minimal. Our costs are for postage, mailing supplies, and promotional material. There are no paid employees.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT: Our generous supporters include Estelle Yarns who have donated yarn to help our volunteer knitters make these beautiful knockers and Ever Soft Fibers who have donated stuffing to help complete the knockers. We also have local yarn shops that have been very generous in acting as drop off points for finished knockers, and offering discounts on the specific yarn we use. We have also had donations from area businesses to help us with our mailing costs! Donations can be made to help us offset our costs by sending a cheque made out to Knitted Knockers of Canada and sent to:
115 Fiddlehead Cres., Waterdown, Ontario, Canada, L0R 2H8
